Portland, Oregon-based artist Adam Kuby was selected to create a permanent art piece for the rebuild of Seattle Public Utilities South Recycling and Disposal Station Project located in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle, WA.

SPUAKubyKuby was selected by an open call reviewed by a panel of artists, designers, community advisors and Seattle Public Utilities staff. This project is funded by Seattle Public Utilities 1% for Arts funds and administered by the Office of Arts & Culture.

Kuby primarily works on landscape-based, ecologically responsive public art commissions and temporary installations. His work can be found in cities including Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary, Aberdeen and Portland. Currently, Kuby is currently working on commissions in Tacoma, San Francisco, Seattle, and Phoenix. Notably, Kuby was recently recognized for his work, receiving the Rome Prize in Landscape Architecturethat provided him a residency at the American Academy in Rome in 2014-15.

In his public art, Kuby is known for melding the two worlds of the natural and the urban together. Exploring the friction and relationship between human form-making and its counterparts in nature, Kuby incorporates elements of time, change, decay and erosion into his pieces.

As an undergraduate student, Kuby studied landscape architecture and ecology at the University of Pennsylvania and continued on to receive his M.F.A in sculpture from the University of North Carolina.
